Mitsubishi Evo 8 and Evo 9 Timing Belt Kit with Water Pump
This timing belt kit is for Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII and IX saloon models with the 2.0-litre 4G63T engine. It includes a Contitech timing belt, genuine Mitsubishi balance shaft belt, GMB pulley bearings and a water pump. The other pulleys and gears are German aftermarket products.
The standard kit is for engines that retain their balance shafts. If you are removing them during your rebuild you can select the additional balance shaft delete parts above the Add to Cart button.
What comes with the standard kit?
- Contitech timing belt
- Genuine Mitsubishi balance shaft belt
- Crankshaft angle sensing blade
- Oil pump sprocket
- Balance belt pulley with GMB bearing
- Timing belt tensioner
- Timing belt idler pulley with GMB bearing
- Balancer belt train spacer
- Balancer crankshaft sprocket
- Balancer shaft sprocket
- Timing belt balancer tensioner pulley with GMB bearing
- Water pump
The water pump is included in the standard kit. The oil pump sprocket is also included. An oil pump is not listed as part of this kit.
Vehicle fitment
For the following Evo 8 and Evo 9 saloon applications with the original turbocharged 4G63 engine. The year ranges are a guide and vary by market.
| Model | Year guide | Chassis | Engine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Evolution VIII / Evo 8 | 2003–2005 | CT9A | 2.0-litre 4G63T |
| Evolution VIII MR / Evo 8 MR | 2004–2005 | CT9A | 2.0-litre 4G63T |
| Evolution IX / Evo 9 | 2005–2006 | CT9A | 2.0-litre 4G63T with MIVEC |
| Evolution IX MR / Evo 9 MR | 2006–2007 | CT9A | 2.0-litre 4G63T with MIVEC |
Check the Evolution version and engine fitted before ordering. CT9A alone does not identify the generation because Evo 7 models also use this chassis code. Registration year may differ from the model or production year.
If your car has an engine conversion or already has a balance shaft delete fitted please contact us with the engine specification so we can check the parts required.
Keeping the balance shafts
The 4G63 has two balance shafts that rotate at twice engine speed to reduce vibration. The small balance shaft belt drives one shaft. The main timing belt drives the other through the oil pump.
Removing the small belt alone does not complete a balance shaft delete. If you are keeping the original arrangement both shafts need to be correctly timed and the small belt needs the specified tension.
Optional balance shaft delete parts
Select “Balance shaft delete option” above the Add to Cart button to add:
- Genuine Mitsubishi balance shaft stub: replaces the oil-pump-driven balance shaft. It has the lubrication groove required for this arrangement.
- Balance shaft cap: closes the opening left by the removed belt-driven shaft.
- Genuine Mitsubishi balance shaft bearing set: fitted in the specified orientation to block the original oil feeds for the removed belt-driven shaft.
These parts are added to the standard kit only when the option is selected. Removing the balance shafts can increase engine vibration. Have the conversion carried out by an engine builder familiar with the 4G63 oil system. The correct oil feeds must be blocked while lubrication to the remaining oil pump components is retained.

Before fitting the timing belt
An aligned oil pump sprocket mark does not by itself confirm the balance shaft position. On engines retaining the shafts the Mitsubishi procedure includes a check through the cylinder block access hole to confirm the oil-pump-driven shaft is in the correct phase. Follow that check before fitting and tensioning the belt.
Use the workshop procedure for the exact engine for belt routing, tensioner preparation, tightening and final checks. Complete the prescribed manual rotation and recheck the timing marks and belt tension before starting the engine. If a hydraulic tensioner needs compressing follow the specified slow compression procedure.
For the balance shaft phase check and belt installation details see the Mitsubishi 4G63 turbo engine overhaul manual. Confirm that the procedure applies to your engine version.
